Homeopathy, the system of healing that is based on the philosophy that “like cures” like, is used for treating a huge number of ailments that kids and adults suffer from. Commonly, homeopaths treat chronic complaints like eczema, asthma, allergies, auto-immune issues as well as acute complaints like colds, flus, and tummy bugs. But homeopathy is also great for treating fears and anxiety and can be very useful at the start of a school year when children of all ages are acclimating to their new situation.
When choosing remedies, we look for what is individual to that person and what state they are stuck in that is different from their balanced and healthy state.
Here are some examples of homeopathic remedies you can try if your child is having a tough time getting used to her new routine:
For toddlers or younger kids who are anxious about separation and become clingy, weepy and won’t let go of you, try Pulsatilla 30c.
For kids who are nervous and shy going into a new situation and stubbornly resistant but who warm up quickly once they get going, try Silicea (Silica) 30c.
If the child is nervous for days before and keeps getting upset and frightened about the different scenarios they foresee, try Argentum Nitricum 30c.
If they are shaky and weak at the knees from nerves, try Gelsemium 30c.
Give one dose only under the tongue and wait and see how it goes. If it’s helpful, only re-dose on relapse. If it does nothing, then you can try another one after a few hours.
If none of these remedies help, you can try to seek the help of a professional homeopath who can take the child’s complete case and see what is needed to make them more comfortable. There are so many possible remedies to choose from and this is just a small sample.
